Kinja'd!!!

Well, a last friday i have a dream about driving an E38 750iL but powered with a Mclaren F1 GTR engine. And it was joyous. I think it'll be joyous to drive as well in real life, when it was working of course.

The last car I would think about someone posting a picture of is for sure the E38 750iL! I have this exact same car but in Silver. The Style 61 wheels on this picture (16") I use for winter driving with winter tires. Got some M-Pars 18" for the summer. This is for sure the best BMW ever made.

You have great taste Sir.

That's cool! How's the maintenance on yours?

I almost bought one of those a few years ago, but since i've heard quite a horror story regarding to 750's, i ended up with W140 S600L instead.

To be fair, it is not bad at all. The problem is I am extremely picky so every single thing on mine has to work/be perfect. For example last year I got the whole interior (headliner/pillars) re-upholstered by a company here in Canada at a cost of $900. Then my injectors were sort of leaking at the top (could smell gas inside). $1500 on parts. Did some suspension work replacing a lot of stuff (these cars are heavy so parts wear down faster). Another $1500.

That said, if you do take care of stuff before they break, these are very reliable and the V12 is actually MUCH simpler than the V8 (i.e. no VANOS). So it is way easier to fix.

I would say in a normal year you will spend probably $1,200-$2,000 on maintenance (oil changes, alignment, minor stuff that needs attention, etc). A bad year and you will be probably in the $4,000-$5,000 (i.e. having all injectors replaced with new ones - if you get them used/refurbished will be much less of course). But the bad years do NOT happen often at all (again, the injectors example, you need to do that probably every 120,000 miles) so overall I would say the car is not high maintenance/expensive to keep it running.

Would buy it again guaranteed. And it is my favourite car on my small (6 cars) collection and it will never go anywhere. Going to the grave with me.

I almost bought a 2001 S600 with the AMG package. My neighbour bought it new then sold it to buy the 2007 S65 AMG that I am almost sure he will be selling soon. Damn...
